From 2012 till Date: Six Times Seyi Shay Has Electrocuted Us With Her Music
With the release of Seyi Shay’s brilliant brand new E.P., ‘Electric Package’, which can be likened to a clear case of turning one’s lemon into lemonades, we have decided to take a trip down memory lane and revisit all the many times before that Ms. Shay has blown us away with her dazzling vocals and incredulous hooks.
While there are more than a handful of Seyi songs that we adore, here are the top six.
Irawo (feat. Vector) – It seems like it was just yesterday when Seyi Shay made her way into our music libraries with Irawo. While the song was already a certified jam, the remix Vector made the song pop even more. It’s been a minute but the song is still makes a whole lot of sense.
“Murda” (featuring Patoranking and Shaydee) – Probably one of Seyi’s most popular collaboration till date, ‘Murda’ still stands out because of its melodious chorus and slick production. Seyi, Pato, and Shaydee did the track an insane amount of justice and we are still here for it, years later.
“Right Now” – Seyi shook up the pop scene in 2015 when she dropped the irresistibly catchy pop tune that is ‘Right Now’. With a blend of seamless vocals and wavy production, ‘Right Now’ was a super mega smash and there was no denying it.
“In Love” ( Wizkid featuring Seyi Shay) – Seyi’s Starboy collaboration dropped at a pivotal time in the career of the two pop stars. They were leaving the group chat of ‘up and coming’ artistes and were about to start officially rolling with the big dogs. From the music to the accompanying visuals, ‘Crazy’ was a thrill for fans of the two artistes.
Yolo Yolo – Many of us had never heard of ‘Afro-salsa’ up until Seyi Shay dropped the groovy ‘Yolo Yolo’. It sounded different, it felt like the pioneer of a new wave and we were all here for it. It’s still one of the daring Nigeria pop tunes to drop in recent history and we have none other than the Electric Package herself to thank for it.
Lastly is her most recent single – Alele which features vocal contributions from urban high life merchant – Flavour. Alele (interpreted as “Run”) is the lead song on her just released 6-track Electric Package EP and an instant call to excitement. Seyi Shay’s unignorable musical dexterity and Flavours smooth range all came together to make it a well-seasoned offering.
